Analytics & Data

Why the basket stays empty

We analyse what actually happens in your shop: where visitors drop out, which products carry the revenue, what the search fails to find and where in the ordering process revenue slips away.

What this is about

In a shop almost everything can be measured, which is precisely why the right things rarely get looked at. The question is not how many visitors arrive, but at which point how many of them stop, and why.

The funnel shows the spot

If half of them disappear between basket and checkout, the problem is not the home page and it is not the marketing either.

Range beats design

Often the issue is not colours or buttons but missing details, unclear variants or a search that finds nothing.

Change and measure

A change without a before-and-after measurement is an opinion. We measure before we recommend, and again afterwards.

There are enough visitors. The question is where they stop.

Situations that typically bring clients to us

What we actually do

Funnel analysis

We measure every step from the product page to the order confirmation and name the point with the biggest loss.

Tracking for shops

Clean e-commerce tracking including order value, items and shipping methods, set up in line with data protection rules.

Session recordings and heatmaps

We look at how people actually click and scroll. That explains figures which otherwise stay puzzling.

Range and search analysis

Which products carry the revenue, which search queries lead nowhere and which filters nobody uses.

Improving the checkout

Specific changes to shipping details, payment methods, guest checkout and forms, each of them measured on its own.

Tests instead of assumptions

Where enough orders come together, we test variants against each other rather than deciding by gut feel.

How we work

  • 01

    Check the measurement

First we establish whether the existing figures are correct at all. That is often the first finding.

  • 02

    Set up the funnel

Every step up to the order is made visible, split by mobile and desktop.

  • 03

    Look for causes

Recordings and search data explain why people abandon at the point that stands out.

  • 04

    Change and measure again

We implement the changes or support your development team, then check the effect.

Usually two or three points in the ordering process are enough to noticeably increase completed orders. Give us access to your figures.

Frequently asked questions

Visitors are often not the problem. The question is where the buying process breaks – and whether the figures show it at all.

What do you analyse in a shop?

The funnel first: we measure every step from the product page through the basket to the order confirmation and name the point with the biggest loss. Then come the range and the search – which products carry the revenue, which search queries lead nowhere, which filters nobody uses – along with the comparison between mobile and desktop. Often the issue is not colours or buttons but missing details and unclear variants.

Do you fix faulty tracking in the shop?

Yes, and it is usually the first step. As long as orders are counted twice, returns are not deducted or channels are attributed wrongly, every optimisation is guesswork. We set up e-commerce tracking cleanly, including order value, items, shipping and payment methods, keeping consent and retention in view. Only after that does an analysis mean anything.

Does this work for Shopify and other shop systems?

Yes. The questions are the same everywhere, only the technical connection differs: with Shopify a lot of the data is already structured, with custom systems we build the tracking along the actual ordering path. Even for shops we did not build ourselves, this is usually possible without touching the core.

Do you work together with the shop developers?

Yes, either with our own development team or with your provider. Data changes nothing about revenue without someone to implement the changes. That is why we phrase the recommendations concretely enough to be actioned directly – shipping details, payment methods, guest checkout, forms – and measure each change separately. Where enough orders come together, we test variants against each other.

Plenty of visitors, few orders?

Give us access to your figures. We will show you where the revenue slips away.
