Concept & Strategy

Decide where you are going, then start building

We work out who an offering is meant for, what sets it apart from the competition and how success can be measured. Every decision after that becomes easier.

What this is about

Most digital projects do not fail in the build. They fail because nobody decided beforehand who they were for. Strategy sounds like a thick document, but it is mainly a set of decisions you do not have to keep reopening later.

Market and competition

We look at what others in the market do and say. Only in comparison does it become visible what is genuinely a difference on your side and what everyone claims.

Decisions instead of options

A strategy that leaves everything open helps nobody. We settle who is being addressed and who is deliberately not, and we put it in writing.

Measurable instead of opinion

Every goal comes with a number that shows later whether it was reached. Without that, any assessment stays a matter of taste.

Speak to everyone, and you reach no one properly.

Situations that typically bring clients to us

  • A relaunch is coming up, but the goal behind it has never been put into words.

  • Every department tells a different story about the company.

  • There are plenty of ideas, but no basis for deciding between them.

  • The offering needs explaining and is misunderstood in the market.

  • Digital activities run alongside each other instead of towards each other.

  • After a handover or a repositioning, there is no shared direction.

  • None of this sounds like you?

What we actually do

Market and competitive analysis

We look at how others present themselves and argue their case, and work out where there is still room for you.

Audiences and triggers

Who decides, who influences and in which situation does a need arise at all? That is what tells us where you have to show up.

Positioning

A clear statement of what you stand for and what you do not, one that the organisation actually supports.

Goals and metrics

We translate intentions into numbers, so it can be traced later whether an activity achieved anything.

Digital strategy and roadmap

Which activities in which order, at what effort and with what expected effect. As a roadmap, not a wish list.

Workshops in house

As certified design thinkers we work with your team, not over its head. What comes out of it is carried by the people involved.

How we work

  • 01

    Listen

Conversations with the people who know the market and the customers. Usually the knowledge is already in the organisation, just never written down.

  • 02

    Make sense of it

Put market, competition and your own strengths side by side and name what genuinely holds up.

  • 03

    Commit

Positioning, audiences and goals are decided in writing, not just discussed.

  • 04

    Translate

The strategy becomes a roadmap with concrete steps that concept work and delivery can follow.

What you get at the end is not a deck of slides, but a handful of decisions everyone can refer to. Tell us what is coming up on your side.

Frequently asked questions

Most projects do not fail in the build, but because nobody decided beforehand who they were for.

What does strategy development with dxm deliver?

A set of decisions you do not have to keep reopening: an assessment of market and competition, clearly named audiences and triggers, a positioning including the question of who you deliberately do not address, measurable goals and a roadmap with order and effort. What you get at the end is not a collection of options, but a decision the next projects can be aligned to.

Do we get a thick strategy document?

No. The documentation is as short as possible and concrete enough to be used day to day. What interests us is what follows from it: which activities are due, in which order and how you will know whether they worked. That is why every goal comes with a number. Without it, any later assessment stays a matter of taste.

How long does strategy development take?

That depends on how much groundwork already exists and how many people are involved in the decision. A focused process with analysis, one or two workshops and a written commitment usually takes weeks rather than months. At the start we clarify which questions have to be answered before budget and activities, and which can be decided later in the project.

Is this suitable for start-ups and mid-sized companies?

Yes, because the benchmark is your situation and not a corporate playbook. For young companies it is mostly about focus: who first, with which offering, through which channel. In mid-sized companies the problem is more often that every department tells a different story about the company. As certified design thinkers we work on this in workshops with your team, because otherwise nobody inside the organisation stands behind the result.

Plenty of activity, no direction?
